If you read the About Me page of this website, you will see I had an up and down battle with my weight and health. Amazingly, it took me some time to realize for me to maintain a healthy weight I had to watch what I ate, duh. But after struggling with my weight I made myself susceptible to health issues such as high blood pressure and breast cancer. After winning my battle with breast cancer, it still took me time to realize I still had to fight and the weapons I needed to continue this battle was the food I ate. One day, and we all know that God orders our footsteps, a friend came to me house for a visit and we were discussing health issues and she suggested I consider a plant-based diet. A light bulb went off in my head! I’ve been looking for a solution and the solution found me!

A well-balanced vegan diet can provide all the food that we need to survive quickly. Government health experts around the world are finally catching up with a wide range of scientific evidence showing that a vegan diet is not just a viable option for people of any age, but that eating plant foods rather than animal-based foods can bring significant health benefits, including reduced incidence of obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart attack, stroke.
A Vegan Diet Is Good for The Heart
The American Dietetic Association, the oldest, largest and foremost authority on diet and nutrition in the United States, states in its official position paper on vegetarian and vegan diets that well-balanced vegan diets “are healthy, nutritionally adequate and can give healthy benefits in the prevention of some certain diseases” and that they are “appropriate for people at all stages.”
In the United States, heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women. About 2,600 Americans die every day of a type of heart condition, the most common form of which is coronary heart disease, also known as coronary artery disease and atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis occurs as heavy plaque surfaces. Usually deposits of cholesterol accumulate in major arteries and begin to limit blood and oxygen flow to the heart. Additionally, arterial plaque is a leading cause of stroke, America’s fourth-biggest killer every year.
While other factors that influence levels of cholesterol and heart disease (including smoking, obesity, blood pressure, and body weight), dietary cholesterol is one of the most important causes of heart disease. The bodies make all the cholesterol that we need, and high amounts contribute to the consumption of animal products. (Plant foods do not contain cholesterol). Additionally, animal products are filled with saturated fats that allow the liver to generate more cholesterol, unlike unsaturated fats.
A Vegan Diet Prevent and Reverse Other Diseases, Too
Fortunately, the prevention of coronary heart disease is as simple as eliminating animal products, eating a healthy diet based on plants, exercising and avoiding cigarette smoking for most people. A plant-based diet, however, is the only treatment that has been scientifically proven to reverse heart disease beyond prevention.
A whole diet based on plants can avoid and even cure many of the worst diseases in some situations. Dr. T. Colin Campbell is an American biochemist who works on the long-term health implications of human nutrition. Based on his observations from a 20-year research project under the auspices of Cornell University, Oxford University and the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine, Dr. Campbell co-authored the global bestseller The China Review, a review described by The New York Times as “the Grand Prix in Epidemiology.” Based on a meta-analysis of diet and disease rates in thousands of rural Taiwanese and Chinese people, Dr. Campbell suggests that people who eat a whole meal, plant-based diet — excluding all animal products — can prevent, decrease, and in many cases reverse the occurrence of various diseases, including most of the leading lethal Western diseases.
“What made this project particularly remarkable is that among the many associations relevant to diet and disease, so many pointed to the same finding: the most chronic disease was obtained by people who ate the most animal-based food. Negative effects are associated with even relatively small intakes of animal-based food. People who ate the most food based on plants were the most balanced and tended to avoid chronic disease. It was not possible to ignore these findings.”
